The Wheel of Fortune

Interpretation

The Wheel of Fortune“Luck is where preparation and opportunity meet.” The shape of the wheel indicates continual movement. Tens are generally the end of a cycle. Together, the Wheel of Fortune suggests luck or the wheel of life.

When you receive this card, your number could be up. All the work you’ve done might be about to pay off. On the other hand, you might find you’re unprepared and this opportunity isn’t to your benefit. There is a bit of a roulette feel to this wheel. You could go home a big winner or loser. Either way, you’ll walk away with knowledge you didn’t have before.

This is one of the cards that is very similar in both its upright and inverted dignities. The upright tends to be a little more favorable. It’s time to take a chance, my dear. Opportunity is headed your way.

Interactions

The Wheel of Fortune interjects a little change into readings.

Major Arcana

Fool: The Wheel of Fortune cancels the Fool in readings.
High Priestess: When the upright Wheel of Fortune combines with the upright High Priestess, a lawsuit or petition that looked hopeless will offer some compensation. There is also likely to be an artistic or scientific triumph.
Chariot: When the Wheel of Fortune and Chariot combine, it indicates triumph.
World: When the Wheel of Fortune combines with the World, light will be shed on hidden factors, bringing success.

Minor Arcana

Nine of Cups (Hearts): The combination of the Wheel of Fortune with the Nine of Cups (Hearts in other decks), is very fortunate.
Ace of Pentacles (Diamonds, Disks, Coins): The combination of the Wheel of Fortune with the Ace of Pentacles (Diamonds, Disks, or Coins in other decks), is very fortunate.

The Major Arcana

The twenty-two cards of the Major Arcana tend to hold the big lessons. These cards carry powerful messages. If you are reading a spread of cards, watch for the Major Arcana. If your spread contains more than 30% Major Arcana, you are in the midst of something big, or beyond your control. If most of the cards in the spread are from the Major Arcana, you might be trying to exert too much control. You might have trouble expressing your feelings, or you might be near your breaking point. A spread without any Major Arcana cards could indicate you are hiding from the truth of the issue, or are in some deep distress. If this is the case, it is important to find someone you can trust to guide you through this period of time. In a spread, focus most of your attention on the Major Arcana. The other cards will be useful for clarifying the situation.

Number — 10

Ten is a number of completion, harvest, and the end of a cycle.
